The work of George Rotenstein

A Watchmaker’s Eye
for Detail

For over half a century George Rotenstein has brought a watchmaker’s eye for detail to everything he makes — collages built entirely by hand from authentic watch parts, and, with a team of specialist craftsmen, miniature musical carousels in silver and gold and finely detailed sculptures.

About George

A lifetime made by hand

George Rotenstein trained as a watchmaker, serving his apprenticeship at J. Farren Price, the Watch Specialist, and working in the repair department of the Longines factory in St-Imier, Switzerland. Over a long career he gathered an intimate knowledge of the thousands of tiny parts inside a watch — and tens of thousands of the parts themselves.

That precision runs through all of his work. His watch-part collages he makes entirely himself. For the musical carousels, sculptures and other pieces he gathered Australia’s finest jewellers, silversmiths, engineers and artists, and brought their skills together to create things that are genuinely one of a kind.
